Have a Bunch of Money? Gordon Murray Will Build You a Custom Car

Date:

Gordon Murray Group is adding a third division to its portfolio. It’s called Gordon Murray Special Vehicles (GMSV), launched with the goal of building cars even more limited and special than the T.50. It will operate independently of GM Advanced Engineering and GM Automotive, and have its own dedicated design and engineering teams.

The new division will build cars under three categories: Bespoke, Heritage, and Special Vehicles. Bespoke builds will come from customer commissions that GMSV could build using an existing GMA vehicle or on a new platform. GMSV’s heritage cars could include continuation models or modern interpretations of past offerings.

The Special Vehicles category of GM’s Special Vehicles division is where the engineering team will create and produce its own low-volume, limited-run designs. These cars will “sit outside the available GMA range of products and platforms,” according to the company.

Gordon Murray, the group’s executive chairman, said in a statement that he had resisted requests for one-off and limited-run cars from customers as the company has been focused on launching the T.50 and T.33. He believes now is the time to expand the group’s offerings now that it’s delivering cars and gaining recognition.

The company didn’t provide any additional details about when we could see GMSV’s first build, but it did emphasize that the division would produce these cars in “extremely limited numbers.” Whatever GMSV builds, expect it to be very fast and very expensive.
