Watch Jeff Bezos’ Cheap Electric Truck Reveal Here: Livestream

Date:

Slate, the startup rumored to be promising a $25,000 electric pickup, is revealing its first vehicle tonight. While the small truck has been spotted on the streets of Los Angeles, we haven’t learned much else about it, aside from its size and improbably low price tag. But soon, we’re about to learn a whole lot more.

There’s a fair bit of hype around Slate right now. The venture, partially backed by Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, has reportedly raised over $100 million in funding so far. The two-seat pickup, should it reach the market, would undercut every other truck on sale in America right now, including the Ford Maverick.

Going by what we’ve seen so far, Slate’s truck will be offered in at least three body styles: a traditional pickup truck, an upright SUV, and a fastback utility vehicle that reminds us of an old Range Rover Sport. There’s no word on powertrain or performance specs, though we don’t expect anything spectacular, considering the rumored starting price.

It’s unclear when Slate’s pickup will come to market, when deliveries will start, where it will be built, or if it will qualify for the government’s EV tax credits. Tonight’s event should shed some light on our questions, and yours. So be sure to tune in as soon as it starts, at 7:00 p.m. Eastern / 10:00 p.m. Pacific time.
