Bike Shed Moto Co. x Pom Klementieff Royal Enfield 650…

Date:

Since it broke cover eight years ago, the much-loved Royal Enfield 650 twin has captured the hearts of a huge variety of riders. From first-timers to old-timers, racers to photo-stoppers, and now, a daredevil Hollywood badass. Built in collaboration with Bike Shed Moto Co., Royal Enfield, and some of the UK’s sharpest custom builders, this mean, blacked-out scrambler is proudly owned (and ripped) by Mission Impossible and Marvel star, Pom Klementieff.

When not diving from planes, riding horses, practicing martial arts, or filming the latest installment of a mega-franchise, Pom can often be found riding motorcycles with close friend and Bike Shed co-founder, Vikki Van Someren, who just so happens to ride her own custom Enfield. Soon enough, wheels were in motion for Pom’s own build.

A combination of hectic schedules and time-zone complications saw the project gestate over a considerable time. Conceived before Royal Enfield released the dirt-happy Bear 650, the concept was to take aim at the scrambler-shaped hold that existed in their 650 line-up at the time. Where Vikki’s custom leaned toward flat track racing for inspiration, Pom’s bike would be for the vast outdoors.

Despite those dirty ambitions, the donor machine earmarked for the project was the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650—a factory café racer that was never destined to take a straight line from A to B. Soon enough, the clubman-style tank and clip-on bars were consigned to the parts bin and RE Interceptor replacements sourced, before Dutch (Bike Shed founder and fellow custom Enfield rider) put in calls to some of his favored UK suppliers.

Sold Out Motorcycles was his first port of call, with their short tail loop kit and plug-and-play seat providing a simple solution to the overly long stock frame. Their myriad selection of parts and accessories was also raided for some clean and simple upgrades.

The next dial from the little black book of contacts was Tom—ex-Formula One exhaust fabricator and founder of Hitchcox Motorcycles. His brief was simple: “The ultimate Scrambler pipes, please, Tom.” He delivered twin, high-level, parallel pipes with a slash-cut finish—as clean and classic as could be, and, crucially, repeatable for any potential future Enfield projects.

The three-piece wraparound headlight mask was based on a design originally created by Dutch and Adrian Sellers at Royal Enfield during a previous collaboration, with a nod to JvB-Moto. The custom mask was re-re-designed and 3D-printed by Greg, a Bike Shed Los Angeles member operating out of Primer Studios, before being paired with a yellow-tinted lens for that distinctive visage.

Above it, the vacated ignition barrel housing functions as a cable guide to keep everything tidy, with a small Daytona dial flipped to the rider’s side of the yokes. This was possible due to the pre-CAN bus era of the donor model, and is a change that would be far more complicated with the latest Google-integrated clocks. Renthal bars and aftermarket mirrors complete the view.

Heidenau K60 rubber was fitted before the owner-prescribed all-black paint job was applied by Amir at On-Point Projects—another of the clearly talented Bike Shed Los Angeles membership pool. For the finishing touch, Dutch designed a winged PK logo for the tank, laid down in a pop of yellow.

It’s fair to say, Pom was giddy on the reveal of her new whip—an excitement that reached fever-pitch once the engine roared through those remarkable pipes. All in, it’s a relatively simple build, utilizing choice parts from suppliers at the top of their respective fields, while celebrating the solid bones of the stock machine to create a one-off scrambler for a truly one-off rider.

In the time that’s passed since the origin of this build, Royal Enfield has finally plugged that scrambler gap in their 650 range with the Bear. After riding one at the infamous Motoverse festival, Dutch is keen to revisit his vision of a custom Royal Enfield 650 scrambler. The sequel is coming very soon.
